Coverage:

For information on this subject please see our Insurance Requirements section.
Sunshine Rent A Car offers optional protection packages. Collision Damage Waiver (not insurance) is an option available for an additional daily charge which when offered waives or reduces the customer’s responsibility for loss or damage to the rental car, provided the car is used in accordance with all terms and conditions of the car rental agreement.

All Renters must provide proof of Liability & Collision Insurance

If the customer chooses to decline any or all of these coverages, they must provide proof of automobile insurance. For example, the insurance ID card found in the wallet or glove box. If you do not have an Insurance card then bring your Policy Declarations Page. If all else fails we will attempt to contact your Insurance company via telephone. Please allow for an extra 10 minutes at our rental counter for us to get the information we need.

Do I need additional protection my rental car?

We want you to experience a worry-free car rental whenever you rent from Sunshine. That’s why we offer several different protection options designed to meet your individual needs; whether or not you are covered through your own insurance or credit card policies. We do recommend that before renting your car you verify your coverage and its levels with your insurance and credit card companies.

Questions to ask your insurance company:

Will my insurance cover certain vehicles (i.e. truck-based chassis on vans, luxury cars, etc.)? How much is my deductible on my insurance (What is my out of pocket expense before my insurance will pay)?

Questions to ask your credit card company:

Does my credit card offer any rental car collision protection? If yes, is it primary or secondary? If secondary, then will I risk having out of pocket expenses or relying on my personal insurance? Does my credit card policy limit the length of the rental car after which it will not provide collision.

Car rental protection packages

Based on your individual requirements, you may want to purchase some or all of Sunshine Rent A Car’s optional protection products. Your car rental agent will be happy to discuss the details. Here is the information to help you do your homework. There are 6 types of coverage that you can purchase at the rental car counter. Many of these may be covered with your personal or corporate auto and health insurance coverages.

In the sections that follow, we provide you with brief explanations of our coverage products offered.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)

When you select our Collision Damage Waiver options, you are contractually waiving or limiting your personal responsibility to Sunshine for damage to or loss of our rental car. CDW is not insurance. There is a deductible on this coverage starting at $1000.

Deductible Damage Waiver (DDW)

DDW is not insurance. When you select our Deductible Damage Waiver option, you are covering your deductible on your automobile insurance. Cost of DDW varies by amount of your deductible. Some Gold or Platinum level credit cards offer this protection when using their card to rent the vehicle.

Loss of Use Waiver (LOU)

LOU is not insurance. When you select our Loss of Waiver, you avoid having to continue paying for the vehicle while is sits in the shop waiting for repairs caused while in your possession.
Some Visa Gold or Platinum level cards offer this protection when using their card to rent the vehicle.

Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)

Protection for claims made against you. Provides you and authorised drivers with liability protection for claims made against you by others for bodily injury or death and/or property damage from the use or operation of the rental car.
SLI provides a substantially higher level than the state minimum limits, up to $1,000,000, of “combined single limits.” Now that’s security with peace of mind!

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

PAI provides certain death and dismemberment benefits, and medical benefits for the renter and passengers, for bodily injury, which result from an accident during the rental period.

Personal Effects Insurance (PEI)

PEI provides certain benefits for the loss or damage to qualified personal property while in the rental car.
The terms and conditions of SLI, PAI and PEI coverages are outlined in a brochure available at the car rental counter.
